It is well known to all that the Canary Islands has one of the best climates around the globe, therefore, for its beaches and magical hidden places on each of its islands, it is one of the main tourist destinations in Europe. What not everyone knows is that in the same way, the archipelago has an idyllic setting for sports.
World Championships, European and Spanish competitions from different disciplines dispute between the different islands in hundreds of sporting events of great prestige nationally and internationally. Hundreds of athletes choose to conduct their pre-season preparation in our islands, as its almost permanently 21º on average, making the Canary Islands a paradise for athletes. Being able to train 365 days a year with little adverse weather conditions is difficult to find.
So its climate, its landscapes, its magic and because the CrossFit community is growing (in the last two years we have gone from three to eight affiliated boxes only on the island of Gran Canaria), the European Caribbean as called by many, is the perfect place on the continent to test the fittest in Europe.
On the 19th and 20th of November the competition, Riders Throwdown 2016, will take place in the south of the island of Gran Canaria. The great success from previous years allows us to think big, so this year there will be news for everyone.
In order to reach the final event, the fitttest men and women in Europe will have to participate in a qualifying three weeks period (between the 4th and the 25th of September). The winners (male and female athlete) will be awarded with 500€ each.
In addition, Riders Throwdown 2016 will be the first national event to add the MASTER 40-49 and MASTER 50+ categories that has been so successful in other European countries. There will be a total of 4 categories: RX (male and female) - Team 3 (same sex) - Master 40-49 & Master +50, and there will be prizes both in cash and in form of sports equipment.
We already have confirmation of Regionals level athletes like David Santa Cruz and 30 athletes from Sweden (Crossfit 360) who will face demanding WODS at the highest level in an environment designed for the development of tests of any kind (including swimming), at the sports center in Arguineguin.
Registration is now open and you can find more information on the website of the event: www.ridersthrowdown.com.
We will announce more surprises and news on our Facebook page and on our website, stay tuned!
